Austria will be the European centre of future mobility from 16 -19th April at the 7th edition of the Transport Research Arena 2018 (TRA2018). TRA2018 combines a four-day conference with an industrial exhibition, hands-on research and live demonstrations. Side events, technical tours and TRA Vision 2018 Young and Senior Researcher Awards accompany the comprehensive exciting programme. TRA2018 is an arena for researchers, companies and public authorities active in the field of transport. It welcomes policy makers and stakeholders framing research and transport policy. Get inspired by futurist and keynote speaker Gerd Leonhard

He will talk about new technologies and the role of humans in the digital world of mobility


Gerd Leonhard, futurist, humanist, author and CEO of “The Futures Agency”, will speak at the TRA 2018 opening session on Monday 16th April. With his speech, he will underline the visionary nature of this edition of TRA. “In order to meet the future transportation needs of urban centres, we need to organise the transport of people and goods more smartly, efficiently and sustainably. Networking, robotisation and artificial intelligence can all contribute significantly“, emphasises Gerd Leonhard.

Special “EUROPE ON THE MOVE” Round Table will be a key forum for Europe’s transport industry

High level representatives will discuss challenges and opportunities for European industry

Following the above keynote speech, an industrial Round Table will take place for the first time during the opening session on Monday 16th April and focus on how European industry can help to create a sustainable transport system. “We see the world of transport is changing fundamentally. Europe must seize this opportunity and shape the future of mobility“, said Maroš Šefčovič, Vice-President for Energy Unions.

Experience European research in the Interactive Zone

A special area has been created within the classic exhibition area and next to the scientific conference


Research results and initiatives can be experienced first-hand as a complement to the classic exhibition and the scientific conference programme. For this purpose, a special area has been created for this edition of TRA 2018 – The Interactive Zone. The Interactive Zone is divided into three sections: the Startup Zone, Networking Zone and Showcases & Demonstration Zone. There will also be two outside areas, which will be used for vehicles and bigger objects. Showcases and demonstrations are categorised into six thematic fields: Automated & Connected Transport, Aviation, Infrastructure & Asset Management, On Track, Multimodal Mobility & Services, Traffic Management & Digital Infrastructure.

An Open Access Journal (ETRR) for disseminating research results


Ten high-quality media partners have already agreed to support the TRA2018. The European Transport Research Review (ETRR) is the latest one to join forces with TRA2018 as a media partner. ETRR is a peer-reviewed open access journal publishing original high-quality scholarly research and developments in areas related to transportation science, technologies, policy and practice. A selection of the best articles submitted to TRA2018 will be published in ETRR. The TRA Programme Committee (PC) will recommend the best hundred and authors can publish their papers for a reduced fee in the magazine.
