AVL will sponsor the gala dinner during the TRA2018 on Tuesday, 17 April 2018 in the Vienna City Hall. We talked with Josef Affenzeller, Director of Research Coordination AVL, about the TRA and what AVL plans to offer to the TRA2018 participants.

What does “A Digital Era for Transport” mean to you?

Digitalisation technology has a really high impact on the transport sector. Think about connected and automated driving. Here, the transport sector is facing a huge challenge which can only be solved by a cooperative approach among the various sectors in Europe and worldwide. During the TRA, these challenges – in addition to other important topics – will be discussed.

What was your most important TRA experience?

To me, the TRA is a meeting place where new ideas and strategies for the future are discussed by experts from Europe as well as around the world. It offers opportunities to meet true experts in their field as well as national authorities and people from the European Commission services. In the exhibition, you learn about the latest technologies in the various fields.

From your point of view, what makes TRA 2018 special?

At TRA 2018, aeronautics is a partner for the first time. In addition to high quality papers, this also means larger demonstration areas. The multisectoral and multimodal approach will take the next step in the conference structure.

Who should attend and why?

TRA is now established as the biggest conference for transport-related research, including all transport modes and their interest groups. Researchers as well as colleagues responsible for the strategy of organizations as well as research activities should attend. You can easily get in contact with experts from the various modes as well as national authorities and experts from the European Commission.

What can visitors expect from AVL at TRA2018?

AVL has submitted a number of technical papers and will also show several vehicles in the demonstration area. At the booth, we will show the newest technologies in view of digitalization of test systems for components and complete vehicles as well as methods and tools for the validation of automated driving functions, in particular for the supply industry and OEMs.
