First overview of TRA 2018 programme
The scope of TRA 2018 covers all modes of surface transport: road, rail and waterborne, as well as co-modality issues, applied to both passenger and freight, in urban, inter-urban and long distance settings. Airports are integrated for their contribution to the transport systems. The latest achievements of European research and technological developments will be presented and thoroughly discussed by participants. The 12 topics for TRA 2018 are:

TRA2018’s programme will include:
Four Plenary Sessions dedicated to key political topics addressed by invited high-level speakers.
- On Monday 16th April, the Opening Session will include a Keynote by Gerd Leonhard, Futurist and CEO The Futures Agency, a High Level Industrial Round Table called “Europe on the Move” featuring Carole Desnost (SNCF, Chief Innovation Officer), Axel Flaig (Airbus, SVP R&T), Emmanuel Forest (Bouygues, Senior Vice-President of Institutional and European Affairs), Helmut List (AVL, CEO), Hanna Maurer Sibley (Ericsson, Head of Presales NWS North Central Europe) and Bernard Meyer (Meyer Shipyards, Managing Director). It will end with the TRA VISIONS 2018 award ceremony for young researchers
The first Plenary Session called “Shaping the new mobility landscape – a Vision for Transport & Mobility for Europe” will include presentations by Henrik Hololei, Director General of DG MOVE and Chin Kian Keong, Group Director, Land Transport Authority, Singapore - Tuesday 17th April’s Plenary Session called “How Digitalisation is transforming the Transport & Mobility System” features so far a Keynote by Carlo Ratti, Mobility Sensing/Human factors, user needs and Georg Kapsch, Kapsch AG and Roberto Viola, Director General of DG Connect
- During the Wednesday 18th April Plenary Session called “Decarbonisation & Future Growth: How to change our Mobility System & remain competitive”, the Keynote will be given by Gerd Schuster, BMW Senior Vice President and talks by Lena Erixon, GD Swedish Transport, Andreas Matthä, CEO ÖBB-Holding AG and Alan McKinnon, Kühne Logistics
- The Thursday 19th April Plenary Session called “Shaping Future Transport Research in Europe” so far includes the Keynote by Robert-Jan Smits, Director General DG Research and presentations by Sergio Barbarino, Chairman of ALICE and Anne Berner, Finnish Minister for Transport
12 Strategic sessions to address major innovation fields and convey policy messages and industrial key issues. There will be three per day focusing on topics linked to the Plenary Session topics as follows:

- Strategic Session 3.2 – Optimising Logistics – Environmental and Economic Benefits
- Strategic Session 3.3 – Infrastructure and Decarbonised Transport
Thursday 19th April
- Strategic Session 4.1 – Enabling and Implementing Research and Innovation Strategies
- Strategic Session 4.2 – European Transport Research in a Competitive World
- Strategic Session 4.3 – Skills and Professions for Future Transport
23 Invited Sessions are special TRA2018 sessions in the form of a typical podium session or panel discussion. Invited session is intended to provide unique opportunities to scientists and other professionals to demonstrate, discuss and exchange on timely topics with TRA2018 participants that are not covered by other sessions or events. Inviting organisation is responsible for the content of its session as well as for the speakers selection and presentation management.
Scientific / Technical Sessions on the conference topics where the reviewed papers will be presented by authors, either as oral or poster presentations. See the topics and description of all 52 sessions in the registration conference tool.
